The Iowa State football team will wear decals on their helmets in their game against Oklahoma Thursday to honor the two police officers who were shot and killed in Des Moines, Iowa this week.

A Urbandale police officer and a Des Moines officer were shot early Wednesday in two separate ambush-style attacks. Both officers later died from their gunshot wounds. (RELATED: Two Officers Killed In ‘Ambush-Style’ Attacks In Iowa)

The officers “were gunned down, sitting in their car doing nothing wrong,” Sgt. Paul Parizek of the De Moon Police Department said in a news conference. “There is a clear and present danger to police officers right now. There’s definitely danger out there right now.”

Law enforcement officials arrested a 46-year-old man Wednesday as a suspect in the attacks.

The Iowa State Cyclones will honor the fallen officers when they take the field at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, Iowa Thursday night.
