Former Denver Broncos star Shannon Sharpe said he will have the same respect for President Trump as he does for President Obama when asked by reporters what he thought about Trump’s victory.

“Hey, the people voted. He didn’t elect himself. The people voted. The people spoke,” Sharpe told TMZ¬†Wednesday.

“I don’t look at the presidency as a person, I look at the presidency as an institution,” Sharpe said. “And it should be respected regardless of how you feel about the person. So, I’ll have the same respect for him as I have for President Obama.”

The TMZ reporter continued to press the former star perhaps expecting Sharpe to be more upset and asked him about the racial division in America as it related to the election. Sharpe continued to be calm and deliberate in his response.

“The biggest mistake that people thought is that once we elected a black president, racism was going away. Racism never went away,” Sharpe said.

“Look, the American people spoke. They wanted President Trump to lead this country. Now whatever you think of him, his misogynistic, maybe his racist ways, but more people thought he was better than Secretary Clinton and so I have no problem with that.”

Clearly Shannon Sharpe has a lot of respect for the presidency and the American people.¬†“I’ll always respect that institution of the presidency and I’ll respect President Trump,” he concluded.
