Barbra Streisand Demands Obama Bypasses Senate And Fill Supreme Court Vacancy
Barbra Streisand demands Barack Obama fill the Supreme Court vacancy and bypass the Senate before President-elect Donald Trump takes office.
On Monday, the 74-year-old actress and singer tweeted a petition on her website calling for the president to ignore the Senate’s refusal to fill the empty seat on the court left by Justice Antonin Scalia. Streisand wants Justice Judge Merrick Garland appointed for the spot before Trump’s presidency can begin. (RELATED: Barbra Streisand Rips Donald Trump)
“If you are concerned about the Supreme Court, please consider going to this website and signing a petition asking President Obama to “appoint” Merrick Garland,” Streisand wrote. “According to the Washington Post, he has the power to do this since Congress has refused to vote, and apparently that can be considered a waiver of its rights to advise and consent. If there are 100,000 signatures, the White House must give this its consideration.” (RELATED: Barbra Streisand Spends 1,228 Words Slamming Trump In Op-Ed)

To date, the petition she shared still needs 17,063 signatures before it will be looked at by the White House.
Garland was nominated to the court by Obama earlier this year, but he has been blocked by Republicans who were hopeful Trump would win the election and nominate a more conservative justice.
Trump said during an interview with “60 Minutes” on Sunday that he plans to fill the vacancy with pro-life judges.
Before the election Streisand came out with a 1,228 word op-ed in the Huffington Post pleading with voters to not give Trump a shot. Throughout the lengthy opinion article, Streisand attacked him for everything from his business record to his physical appearance.
“We cannot allow America to fall into the hands of a narcissist who has shown no regard for anyone but himself… a bigoted and misogynist reality-TV character with no political experience and no qualms about lying loudly and often,” Streisand wrote. “There is no equivalency between these two candidates. Only Hillary Clinton has the skills, the knowledge, the temperament and the compassion to lead this nation.”
