Kate Mara Broke Up With Her Boyfriend After He Dented The Lombardi Trophy
Kate Mara was America’s most eligible bachelorette long before she became a successful actress. The gorgeous 33-year-old star was born into the NFL’s most prestigious football family as the great-granddaughter to Tim Mara and Art Rooney — and that makes for a tough family to break into for a British guy.
Her father’s family owns the New York Giants and her mother’s family owns the Pittsburgh Steelers, so Kate was a big deal years before she became an actress. Mara revealed how her special family situation led to a hilarious end to one of her relationships when she appeared on “Conan” Monday night.
Kate told Conan about a former boyfriend who came to visit her family shortly after the Giants won the Super Bowl. The Lombardi Trophy had just arrived at the Mara household, and Kate’s mother, who was especially excited about it, let Kate’s boyfriend hold the trophy. When he went to lift up the trophy, it fell, and he kicked it to keep it from hitting the ground, denting the Super Bowl trophy in the process.
“I look over at my dad who’s in the kitchen just watching the whole thing happen,” Mara said, shaking her head to replicate her father’s reaction. “And that was the end. We broke up, and that was it.”
Although it rarely happens, Kate’s families teams will go up against one another on Sunday. “The good news,” Mara said talking about the upcoming game, is “we always win. Someone is always happy.”
If Mara’s old British boyfriend was wondering why things didn’t work out, she certainly cleared things up for the guy. And whether your a fan of American football or European, messing things up with a gorgeous girl like Mara is a crushing loss.
