Judge Denies Brad Pitt Request To Keep Divorce Details Sealed
A judge Wednesday denied Brad Pitt’s emergency request to seal the details of his divorce to Angelina Jolie and their temporary custody agreement, at least for now.
The 52-year-old actor’s attorney, Lance Spiegel, told E! News that Pitt had filed for the hearing in hopes of keeping the details about the custody battle with his ex, that involves Pitt’s six underaged children, out of the public eye. The move comes after details about the former couple’s temporary custody agreement were made public. (RELATED: Brad Pitt ‘Very Saddened,’ Asks For Privacy)
Jolie’s attorney, Laura Wasser, also told E! News that they “won” after the judge denied Pitt’s request. (RELATED: Brad Pitt Being Investigated For Child Abuse Amidst Divorce)
However, the judge’s ruling did not close the door on having the documents sealed, rather it just postponed the decision and a hearing was set for January to make a determination on whether or not the documents will remain private.
“Angelina has consistently made public statements and public filings throughout this process,” a source close to the actor told People magazine. “He has not. All he is saying–and any therapist would agree here–is that he wants to do what is in the best interests of his children, and his entire family, including her, frankly. And that is to keep this private.”
“It is inconceivable why anyone would argue against this being private,” the source added. “What is the argument for having it public? Why would you want any details about this incredibly difficult time to be broadcast to the whole world?”
As of now the six children remain in Jolie’s custody while Pitt has monitored visitations.
Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt in September citing irreconcilable differences, TMZ reported. The couple was married for two years.
