‘Wedding Crashers’ Star Uses Acceptance Speech To Lob Cheap Shots At Donald, Melania
Isla Fisher took a shot at Donald and Melania Trump during the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts’ annual awards show Wednesday night.
Fisher, the evening’s recipient of the Trailblazer award, first thanked her fellow nominees, Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts, Margot Robbie and Toni Collette before getting political.
“From a young age my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in this life, that your word is your bond, you say what you want to do and you keep your promises, that you treat people with respect,” she told to the crowd in reference to the First Lady-elect’s RNC speech. “I figured if Melania Trump can use [Michelle Obama’s words] and have success, I should try.”
Fisher then joked that Trump had inspired her to soldier on even though Amy Adams takes all of the Hollywood roles for “gingers.”
“I do need to thank Trump,” the 40-year-old actress stated. “I don’t think I’d be here if it weren’t for him showing the world that unqualified orange people can win things.”
