After news broke that the 35-year-old comedian was cast to play the iconic blue-eyed doll in a new film that will “try to take a contemporary spin on beauty, feminism and identity,” Schumer received a lot of backlash from people who said she was “too fat” for the role.

“There was an announcement that I might star in this movie playing — I wont say the name, but it rhymes with Shmarbie,” Schumer said during an interview with Ellen DeGeneres that airs Monday. “A bunch of times throughout my career, people have been like, ‘You’re too fat,’ or I’ve been bullied.

“What’s cool from being in the public eye for this long is first of all, you build up a thicker skin from it and then you’re like, ‘Wait a minute — no! I look in the mirror and I know who I am and I feel beautiful and I feel strong and sexy.”

“And it doesn’t matter,” she said. “The people I think online trolling are in more pain that we can possible imagine.”
