The former basketball star’s son, Jaden, was born on December 15, 2005, but died just a few months afterwards from SIDS. Jayden’s death is still weighing heavy on Odom and contributed to his initial drug abuse, according to TMZ.

The 37-year-old former NBA star voluntarily checked himself into a San Diego facility late last week. “He wanted to work on his mental and physical health for the next chapter of his life,” E! News reported. (RELATED: Some Devastating News Just Broke About Lamar Odom)

Other reports claim it was Jaden’s would-be 11th birthday and his divorce with Khlo√© Kardashian that Lamar feared would tempt him to use again.

Odom almost died last October after collapsing while partying at a Nevada brothel. He was taken to a hospital and put into an induced coma for two weeks. Kardashian called off their divorce during Odom’s near-death crisis, but later refiled for divorce after he recovered.

Their divorce will be final on Saturday. According to reports, Odom is attempting a 60-day stay at the San Diego facility.
