The former Los Angeles Lakers player gave a rare interview to “The Doctors” before he voluntarily checked himself into a rehabilitation facility last week.

“I wasn’t in a good place mentally, especially mentally, before the incident happened,” Odom said. “My wife at the time (Khloé Kardashian), we were going through some things. I was in a dark place. So, I guess they say everything happens for a reason.”

“I guess the reason is I’m here and I can tell the story.”

Odom nearly died when he collapsed last October while partying at a brothel in Nevada. He was hospitalized and placed in an induced coma for two weeks. At the time, his wife Khloe Kardashian was told by doctors that he had four hours to live.

“I couldn’t talk,” he said. “Nothing would come out when I would open my mouth. So, I was scared.”

The rest of Odom’s interview will air in January.
