Kim Kardashian’s Chauffeur Arrested For ‘Inside Job’ In Paris Armed Robbery
Paris authorities arrested Kim Kardashian’s chauffeur and his brother Monday for possible involvement in the armed robbery of more than $10 million in jewelry from Kardashian in October.
The driver, Michael Madar, and his brother, Gary, were two of 17 “seasoned criminals” taken into custody for potential involvement in the heist, according to Page Six. (RELATED: Kim Kardashian Finally Breaks Silence On Paris Robbery And Kanye Breakdown)
A DNA identification from the restraints used to tie Kardashian up during the robbery led to the arrests on Monday, according to another Page Six report. The reality television star’s chauffeur is believed to have provided the criminals with inside information on the whereabouts of Kardashian as well as her bodyguards on the night of the heist.
Five masked men, disguised as police officers, broke into Kardashian’s high-end Parisian apartment rental where she was staying during Paris Fashion Week in October. The men bound and gagged the reality star while holding her at gunpoint, before making off with about $10 million in jewelry, including a $4.5 million ring given to Kardashian by her husband, Kanye West.
Another set of brothers arrested Monday are responsible for allegedly disposing of the multi-million dollar ring. The unidentified brothers were both “involved in the diamond trade, and are thought to have handled the stolen jewelry,” Page Six reports.
“Their homes have been searched from top to bottom, and so has a jewelry shop in Paris which is also linked to them,” a source said. “The jewelry has not yet been found–but these brothers could lead us to it over the coming days.”
The 17 arrests that have come in the past couple days are the first to be made in connection with the October armed robbery, many believed to be a Kardashian publicity stunt. Kim Kardashian’s French lawyer, Jean Viel, is pleased that the investigation is finally returning results.
“These arrests are a nice surprise because, on the one hand, it will perhaps make it possible to find the jewelry,” he told The Sun. “On the other hand, it puts an end to the outrageous speculation by some who though it was intelligent to pretend that this robbery was staged, or a publicity stunt organized by Ms. Kardashian.”
Viel obviously contests that belief and added that Kardashian was looking forward to “putting her nose up” at those who doubted the horrifying incident was a set-up.
