Jerry Springer said President Donald Trump’s attack on the “free press” is an “assault on America.”

On Friday, the former talk show host sent a message to the president via Twitter that attacking the media was not the same as attacking the other political party. His tweet comes in response to the president’s press conference Thursday when he called out the “very fake news” and media over their coverage of his presidency. (RELATED: Jerry Springer Offers To Help Trump And Pence ‘Talk Things Out’)

“This isn’t politics. It isn’t Democrat vs. Republican. Trump’s vicious attack on the free press is an assault on America. STOP IT,” Springer tweeted. (RELATED: Jerry Springer Said Donald Trump Doesn’t Respect America)

Earlier the same day, Springer questioned whether “secrets” were safe with Trump.

“Intelligence Services must watch what they tell Trump. Are secrets safe with him? Will Russians get info? Investigation necessary,” Springer tweeted.

Springer, who is best known for his tabloid style talk show, volunteered to help Trump and Vice President Mike Pence “talk things out” after Trump said that he “disagreed” with Pence’s advice on dealing with Syria at one of the debates.

“While I may not be able to moderate a debate, sounds like Mike Pence and Donald Trump might need to come on my show to talk things out,” Springer tweeted.
