Miley Cyrus: ‘Trans Youth Under Attack By The Trump Administration’
Miley Cyrus said transgender youth are “under attack” by President Donald Trump’s administration Friday.
The 24-year-old singer and staunch Hillary Clinton supporter shared a screenshot with her 60.9 million followers on Instagram encouraging them to call the Department of Justice and Department of Education to speak out against Trump’s removal of Barack Obama’s transgender bathroom guidelines. The administrative order allowed students to use the locker room and bathroom they feel matches their gender identity. In the screenshot she included instructions about calling along with an introduction for followers to use before launching into their call against Trump’s move. (RELATED: Miley Cyrus Just Mocked Donald Trump In A Way That’s Sure To Strike A Nerve)
“I’m calling to express my opposition to President Trump’s reversal of Obama’s executive order allowing transgender students to use bathrooms based on their gender identities. The real threat to school safety is not transgender students in the bathroom, but discriminatory policies that stigmatize vulnerable children and teens. Thank you. If you get a busy signal, hang up and try again. If you get put on hold, just wait. It took me less than five minutes to make both calls,” the screenshot from Cyrus read.
Later that same day she posted a picture saying she will not “stop fighting for equality” for transgender students. And then another post that showed a photo of a transgender bathroom sign.
