Houston Rockets star guard James Harden recently revealed that he felt the need to “eliminate” ex-girlfriend Khloé Kardashian from his life in order to get his basketball career on the right track.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated published Tuesday, Harden revealed what he didn’t like about being involved with Kardashian and said he eventually realized he needed to get out.

“I didn’t like all the attention,” Harden began. “I feel like it was for no reason. I wasn’t getting anything out of it except my name out there and my face out there, and I don’t need that.”

“It wasn’t uncomfortable, but it wasn’t me,” the Rockets star continued. “I don’t need pictures of myself when I’m driving my car. Who cares? What Shoes am I wearing? Who cares? Where am I eating? Who cares? It was unnecessary stuff that I think trickled down to my teammates. I had to eliminate that.”

A year ago, Harden was having to deal with the drama of former Rockets big man Dwight Howard on the court and the media attention of dating a Kardashian off the court. Despite all that, Harden still had an incredible season, but he’s been even better this year. He’s carried his team to an impressive 42-19 record and is one of the leaders in the MVP race.

“I’m not worried about anything but hooping,” Harden said, “and that may be why I’m having this kind of success.”

The 27-year-old guard and Khloé broke up about a year ago after dating for eight months. Kardashian has moved on to another NBA star with the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Tristan Thompson, and Harden has been focused on nothing but basketball.

But the “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” star hasn’t stayed silent about Harden’s comments regarding his toxic relationship with her.

“He’s only making himself look bad trashing her like this,” a source told Hollywoodlife.com. “She thinks he’s made because she stopped returning his calls and moved on to someone younger and hotter.”

“James is a bitter ex-boyfriend, and he’s in her past,” the source added. “She’s with Tristan now and he’s an upgrade in every way.”

The Houston Rockets leading man likely won’t pay any attention to Khloé’s sources firing back though. He’s been winning ever since the two split up, and he’s still got more winning to do.
