This Actor Once Beat Up Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau
Matthew Perry attended the same elementary school as Justin Trudeau while growing up in Canada, and the “Friends” actor revealed that he once beat up the man who would go on to become prime minister.
Perry joined “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Wednesday night when the talk show host asked if the actor remembered Trudeau as a student. He had a surprising response.
“I have a story about him that I’m not proud of,” Perry admitted. He was in fifth grade and Trudeau was a couple of years behind him, Perry noted before his confession.
“My friend Chris Murray, who was also in the fifth grade in Canada, reminded me that we actually beat up Justin Trudeau,” Perry began. “I think he was excelling in a sport, so it was pure jealousy.”
“He was the only kid in school that we could beat up,” Perry joked. “I’m not bragging about this. It’s terrible. I was a stupid kid and you know, I didn’t want to beat him up.”
Although the “Friends” star isn’t proud of his 10-year-old self, he does credit himself for giving Trudeau the motivation to get where he is today.
“But I think it was rather instrumental in him going to such great heights and becoming the prime minister,” Perry added. “I think he said, ‘I’m going to rise above this and I’m going to become prime minister.'”
