In an interview with Rollacoaster, the 23-year-old singer said that Trump tried to summon the band to meet his daughter, and somehow that led to their band being removed from the hotel.

“Trump actually kicked us out of his hotel once,” Payne began, according to NME. “You wouldn’t believe it. It was about [meeting] his daughter. He phoned up our manager and we were asleep. He said, ‘Well, wake them up’ and I was like ‘No’ and then he wouldn’t let us use the underground garage. Obviously in New York we can’t really go outside. New York is ruthless for us.”

Payne didn’t mention which of Trump’s daughters he wanted them to meet, but claimed “he was like, ‘OK, then I don’t want you in my hotel.’ So we had to leave.”

In the portions of the interview obtained by NME, it’s unclear when the events took place or how exactly the late-night phone call led to them being asked to leave the hotel.
