Wyclef Jean Blasts LAPD After Being Mistakenly Handcuffed In Armed Robbery Investigation

Three-time Grammy Award-winning artist Wyclef Jean was handcuffed and detained early Tuesday morning after police mistakenly identified the musician in connection with an armed robbery.

An unnamed victim was robbed at gunpoint at a gas station in West Hollywood early Tuesday morning. When Los Angeles Police responded to the call, the victim gave them a description of the suspect’s vehicle, according to a CBS Los Angeles report.

Shortly after that, they spotted a car matching the victim’s description, a vehicle which happened to belong to Jean. Police handcuffed the singer and detained him until they cleared his name as a suspect.

Jean, blasted the LAPD on Twitter following the incident, criticizing them for how they handled the situation.

“The police have handcuffs on me. They just took off my Haitian bandana. That’s whats going on right now with Wyclef in L.A. right now. The L.A.P.D. have me in cuffs for absolutely nothing,” Jean can be heard saying in a video of the incident.

The authorities involved emphasized the fact that they stopped Jean because the vehicle “closely matched the suspect vehicle that was involved in the crime,” according to the CBS report. The suspect correct suspect was eventually arrested and the firearm used in the robbery was recovered on the scene.
