What’s Going To Happen With Katy Perry And John Mayer Now?
John Mayer has admitted that his new song “Still Feel Like Your Man” is specifically about his relationship with ex-girlfriend and musician Katy Perry.
“Who else would I be thinking about?” Mayer said in an interview with The New York Times published Thursday.
“And by the way, it’s a testament to the fact that I have not dated a lot of people in the last five, six years,” he added. “That was my only relationship. So it’s like, give me this people.”
Mayer knew the song (and the album as a whole) would probably have people wondering, so he just decided to confront the buzz before it even began. However, the 39-year-old singer said that while his new album, “The Search For Everything,” begins with some breakup songs, it’s more than that.
“There were times when tears came out of me, and I went, O.K., John, this is not about an on-again, off-again relationship. This is something more profound,” he said of writing the album.
The singer-songwriter also confronted his reputation as a “bad boy” during the revealing interview and admitted that he finally wants to settle down before it’s too late.
“I’ve inherited a younger man’s reputation,” Mayer said. “You can even break ‘bad boy’ into good bad boy and bad bad boy — I somehow managed to become a bad version of a bad boy.”
As the iconic guitarist approaches his 40th birthday, he said he wished there was someone to throw him a party and celebrate with.
“I want the baby with the protective earphones,” on the side of the stage, Mayer said before adding, “I’m right on time for my career, and I’m running late for my life.”
Now Mayer is in what he calls the “final frontier” and, perhaps conveniently, Perry just broke things off with longtime boyfriend Orlando Bloom. Will “Still Feel Like Your Man” be enough for the singer to consider reconnecting with Mayer? We’ll just have to wait and see.
