George Michael Finally Laid To Rest More Than Three Months After He Died
George Michael was finally laid to rest Wednesday, more than three months after he died on Christmas Day.
A small private ceremony was held for family members and friends to say goodbye to the 53-year-old pop singer, People magazine has learned. The singer was reportedly buried next to his mom, Lesley, at London Highgate Ceremony. (RELATED: George Michael Autopsy Results Are ‘Inconclusive’)
“We can confirm that the funeral of the singer George Michael took place today,” a representative for the singer told the outlet in a statement. “Family and close friends gathered for the small, private ceremony to say goodbye to their beloved son, brother and friend.”
“George Michael’s family would like to thank his fans across the world for their many messages of love and support,” it added. “We ask that the family’s wish for privacy be respected so that they can continue to live their lives privately, away from any media intrusion. No further details will be released.”
The service came nearly three weeks after the singer’s death was determined to be of natural causes, labeled as dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver, according to the Oxfordshire coroner’s office. That determination caused the Thames Valley Police to end its investigation into the death.
“Investigation concluded following recent death of George Michael: Thames Valley Police has completed its investigation on behalf of the Oxfordshire Coroner into the cause of death of George Michael,” the statement read. “The investigation into the circumstances of the death has now concluded and a file was passed to the Coroner. As the cause of death was natural, no further action is proposed or required.”
Michael was found dead by his boyfriend Fadi Fawaz at his home in Oxfordshire on Christmas Day.
