NFL Hall Of Famer Michael Irvin Under Investigation For Alleged Sexual Assault
Former NFL player and current NFL Network analyst Michael Irvin is under investigation after a woman claimed he sexually assaulted her in a Fort Lauderdale, Fla., hotel last week.
According to law enforcement, the 27-year-old Florida woman claims she and Irvin were at a bar together on March 21, after which she accompanied the former NFL star to his room at the W hotel, TMZ reports. The unnamed woman claims that she remembers feeling sick and fighting Irvin off of her before falling asleep.
When she woke up, Irvin was about to check out. She then left the hotel and called 911 telling police she believed she had been drugged and raped. Police then advised her to go in for a medical examination, which she did, according to TMZ.
The former Dallas Cowboys player has since denied the claims through his attorney and claims that he and the woman were at the bar with a group of people. Afterwards the woman did go back to his hotel room, but another man also came to the room. Irvin claims that he was only in the room for about 15 minutes before he had to leave.
“The allegations are completely false,” Irvin’s attorney, Larry Friedman, told TMZ.
“In the few hours since we’ve learned about them we’ve already discovered many red flags about this young woman’s background and the allegations she made against Michael,” Friedman continued. “Even the complaint that she made specifically says she does not recall the events that took place. She was very drunk that night. Nothing happened and there was no assault.”
Irvin has been accused of sexual battery before at another Fort Lauderdale hotel, the New York Post reports. In 2011, the NFL Network analyst settled a civil lawsuit out of court in which a woman claimed he sexually assaulted her in 2007.
“Michael was in Fort Lauderdale visiting his nieces and nephews at a track meet,” Friedman said of his most recent visit to the area. “He was also visiting his 90-year-old aunt and attending her birthday party. He was blindsided by news of these allegations.”
