Like most of Hollywood, Katie Holmes and her 10-year-old daughter Suri both had a tough time accepting the fact that Hillary Clinton lost the presidential election to Donald Trump.

In an interview with Jenna Bush Hager on Tuesday, Holmes admitted that she and Suri, her only child with ex-husband Tom Cruise, were both devastated when Clinton lost back in November, Page Six reports. Holmes was a outspoken supporter of the Democratic candidate and her daughter followed her to the end until they were both crushed by the outcome.

“I know I thought Hillary was going to win this year,” Holmes said, “it just hurt so badly when she didn’t — and I know that it hurt my child so much as a 10-year-old,” she added.

The 38-year-old actress said Clinton’s loss made her think that women still have a long way to go and said people need to take notice and raise their girls accordingly.

“We have to raise our girls to be very strong, no just for themselves,” she said, “but to open the doors for other people.”
