PHOTOS: Katy Perry Looks Almost Unrecognizable On Magazine Cover, Blasts Trump
Katy Perry graces the cover of the Vogue May issue, but the pop singer looks almost unrecognizable in the magazine where she blames President Donald Trump for bringing “up a lot of trauma for me.”
On Thursday, the 32-year-old singer shared the magazine’s cover and several other photos on Instagram sporting very short, blonde hair and odd clothing attire. (RELATED: Katy Perry Promises To ‘Vote Naked’ To Help Get Hillary Elected)
In the cover shot, Perry posed in a red leather dress with pale make-up looking very different from the person that appeared in the racy “California Gurls” video.
“‘California Gurls’ and fluffy stuff would be completely inauthentic to who I am now and what I’ve learned,” Perry told Vogue.
“I was really disheartened for a while; it just brought up a lot of trauma for me,” Perry said about her feelings after Trump won the election. “Misogyny and sexism were in my childhood: I have an issue with suppressive males and not being seen as equal. I felt like a little kid again being faced with a scary, controlling guy.”
“I wouldn’t really stand for it in my work life, because I have had so much of that in my personal life,” she added. “But it’s an awakening that was necessary because I think we were in a false utopia . . . we can’t ever get that stagnant again. I am so grateful that young people know the names of senators. I think teenage girls are going to save the world!”
