Report: Jennifer Garner Waited To File For Divorce Until After Ben Affleck’s Rehab
Jennifer Garner waited until after Ben Affleck had completed his rehab before filing for divorce to cut down on his “struggle,” according to People magazine.
On Wednesday, a source close to the 45-year-old actress did not share the exact thing that lead to Garner’s decision last week to file for divorce, but did say that the actress was proud of Ben for “getting help” and wanted to wait until after he was out of the treatment for alcohol addiction before taking the final step. “It was just time,” says one source. “There was no catalyst.”
“It came down to his last-ditch attempt at saving things by going to rehab,” another source close to situation explained. “But it was just too little too late.”
“Jen waited for the right time,” a source close to Garner explained. “She wasn’t going to file for divorce while Ben was struggling. She is very proud of him for getting help.”
“As in any marriage, there were numerous reasons why it didn’t work,” a source close to the couple said. “When and if he moves out, it will be when he finds a place suitable for their situation. They want to keep the kids close.”
Last month, Affleck shared on Facebook that he had completed rehab for alcohol.
“I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I’ve dealt with in the past and will continue to confront” the actor wrote. “I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be. I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step.”
The celebrity couple announced in June 2015 that they were separating after 10 years of marriage. They are both seeking joint legal and physical custody of their three young children.
