Catilyn Jenner Opens Up About Gay Marriage, Trump And The Republican Party
Caitlyn Jenner opened up about her thoughts on gay marriage and vowed to come after the Republican party and President Donald Trump over the transgender bathroom issue.
In a segment aired on Thursday from her interview with Diane Sawyer, the 67-year-old former Olympic gold medalist declared that she is “100 percent behind gay marriage” as she admitted her thoughts on it have evolved. (RELATED: Caitlyn Jenner: Donald Trump Is Better For Women Than Democrats)
“I am 100 percent behind gay marriage, let’s clear that up right now,” Jenner explained. “It was [an evolving process], but I am — get it straight — I am all for it.”
Jenner also admitted that while she voted for Trump and went to his inauguration, she is not happy with him and Republicans over his rollback of Obama-era bathroom policies for transgender students, according to Entertainment Tonight.
“Here’s the deal — yes, I did vote for Trump,” Jenner said. “But here’s the deal breaker with the Republican party. And the deal breaker is: You mess with my community, you do the wrong thing with our community, you don’t give us equality and a fair shot, I’m coming after you.”
“When it comes to all equality issues for the entire LGBT community okay, what we need is federal guidance — just like the previous administration said that it was okay to serve as a trans person in the military,” she added. “We have frontline people, I’m talking Marines, trans guys … on the frontline fighting for our country.”
“When I was at the inauguration, I did say hi [to Trump] at a cocktail party … He wanted me to come play golf with him,” she continued. “At that time, I thought it was a pretty good idea, but since Title IX, it’s not a good idea, and so, I won’t be playing golf with him.”
Jenner first shared with the world that she was a transgender woman in an interview two years ago with Diane Sawyer. The two sat down for a new interview to talk about Jenner’s life since the transition, which airs tomorrow Friday April, 21.
