Caitlyn Jenner Contacted Trump Admin Over Transgender Bathrooms
Caitlyn Jenner reached out to President Donald Trump and his administration to prevent his plans to roll back Barack Obama-era transgender bathroom guidelines.
“I know the Republican party does not do as good of job as the Democrats when it comes to all LGBT issues,” the 67-year-old former Olympic gold medalist said in an interview published Thursday in HuffPost. (RELATED: Caitlyn Jenner: Donald Trump Is Better For Women Than Democrats)
“Ninety percent of the things I do politically you don’t even know I am doing nor do I want anyone to know what I am doing,” Jenner added during the promotion tour for the reality TV star’s memoir “The Secrets of My Life.”
Jenner thought Trump was going to be great on LGBT issues, but when he rolled back Title IX in February — which allowed transgender students to use whichever locker room and bathroom they want — the former Olympian great was “ticked.”
“When that went down…it really ticked me off,” Jenner said. “I was all over it that day. I was emailing the entire Trump campaign, saying ‘Don’t do this.'”
“And why do it,” Jenner added. “That’s what I couldn’t figure out. ‘You [Trump] got so many more bigger issues like lowering taxes, Obamacare…South Korea.’ Why even deal with this issue?”
On Thursday, Jenner posted a video message to Trump on Instagram.
“A message to the President,” Jenner wrote in the caption next to the post.
