Celebrities Send ‘Constitutional Crisis’ Letter To Congress About Trump
Michael Moore, Alec Baldwin and tons of other anti-Trump celebrities singed a letter Wednesday pleading for a special prosecutor and an independent commission to investigate allegations of President Donald Trump’s campaign’s ties to Russia.
The letter was sent just hours before former FBI Director Robert Mueller was appointed special counsel by the Department of Justice to head the FBI investigation into any alleged connection between Trump’s 2016 campaign and the Russian government.(RELATED: Rosie O’Donnell To Lead Protest Against Trump At White House)
“It is time to put country before political party,” the letter read, according to the Hill. “The founders of our nation intended to ensure that no one branch of government could supersede the authority of the others and that no individual, not even the president, would be above the law. Today, we fear the bedrock principles of our democracy are being put to the test in ways unlike any others in our nation’s history.” (RELATED: Celebrities Attack Trump During His Speech To Congress)
“Donald Trump’s actions over the past week have put our country on a path toward a constitutional crisis,” it added. “It is the unanimous opinion of out nation’s top intelligence agencies that Russian actors interfered with the presidential election. Getting to the bottom of this interference can not and should not be a partisan matter. We ask that you put country before party to ensure that the integrity and well-being of our nation and its people remain your top priority, as they should.”
The letter was also signed by tons of left-leaning groups including MoveOn.org, American Civil Liberties Union, and EMILY’s List.
