This ‘Sex And The City’ Star Isn’t Scoring The Sexy Roles Anymore

Kim Cattrall is most famous for playing the role of Samantha Jones on the longtime HBO series “Sex and the City,” but now that she isn’t getting similar offers due to her age, she’s lost her love interest in acting.

“I’m not ready to play someone who is grotesque,” Cattrall told The BBC in an interview Tuesday. “Either from being thought of as a very, very older woman, at 60-61 this year, which I’m not, and I don’t feel that way. That’s why I don’t depend on Hollywood for jobs anymore. That’s why I became an executive producer.”

Back when “Sex and the City” started in the late 90s, the English-Canadian actress was 40 and didn’t know if she had what it took to play the sex-crazed role of Samantha Jones, according to Fox News.

“I turned down the role three times,” Cattrall said at Edinburgh International Film Festival last year. “At the time I was just about to turn 41 and I was practicing ageism on myself. I felt I couldn’t be the sex bomb any more,” she said.

“You have to understand that this was 1997. We’ve come a long way since then,” Cattrall added. “40 is now the new 25, 60 is the new 40. I was just thinking: ‘Who is going to believe it? And do I want to do it?'”

Since her years of playing Samantha ended, Cattrall said that people are reluctant to book the aging star before they meet face to face.

“It starts in a little bit of a whisper,” Cattrall said. “‘Can she come in and have a meeting? We just want to see what she looks like. We want to see her skin, where she’s at.'”

She called it a “polite way” of finding out how old she really looks, but Cattrall takes it in stride just as the character she played for 13 years would.

“If I want to look a certain way then that’s for my satisfaction,” she explained. “I don’t do it because of my work, I do it because that makes me feel good.”
