Toby Keith To Perform In Saudi Arabia During Trump’s Visit
Country singer Toby Keith will perform this weekend for a male-only crowd in Saudi Arabia during President Donald Trump’s visit there.
Keith is set to take the stage in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, as part of a star-studded weekend designed to impress Trump during his first overseas trip as president, according to the Associated Press. (RELATED: Toby Keith Said He Doesn’t Regret Performing At Donald Trump’s Inauguration)
The website advertising the concert stressed that it is a male-only performance with a strict formal dress code. The country adheres to a strict interpretation of the Islamic law, meaning there will be no alcohol allowed at the event.
The Washington Post reports said that the singer will not be traveling with Trump and that the White House was unaware the singer was going to be in the country at the same time.
Keith was one of the few performers willing to play Trump’s inauguration. When asked recently if he regretted doing so, he said no.
“There’s no reason not to do it,” Keith reportedly said on stage at the 2017 Country Radio Seminar. “I know a bunch of people were committed. I know a bunch of people — I’m not naming names — but there’s a bunch of people that I didn’t think would have considered it who were committed, and they backed out due to pressure.”
“In the end, it just makes you stronger,” he added. “If you don’t succumb to that kind of pressure, you’ll always come out stronger: Your fans will love you more, your friends will love you more, and at the end of the day, you just get another notch on your gun belt.”
“At the end of the day, I was asked to perform the military part of the show at [Trump’s] inauguration,” he continued. “It’s a weaker stance if you back out. A lot of people did. I shouldn’t have to. This is our country.”
