Was Alex Rodriguez Even Invited To Derek Jeter Night?

Contrary to reports that Alex Rodriguez skipped out on Derek Jeter’s jersey retirement ceremony Sunday night, it now sounds as if A-Rod may not have been invited by his New York Yankees teammate.

Rodriguez was noticeably absent from the special celebration that many of Jeter’s teammates and Yankee greats attended in honor of the shortstop’s legendary career. When asked by reporters if he received an invitation to the ceremony, Rodriguez dodged the question completely. “It was Mother’s Day. I was with my mother,” he said.

The former shortstop and third baseman did spend part of Sunday in Florida with his family, but flew back up to New York City with plenty of time to make it to Jeter’s special night, according to TMZ. Instead he went to dinner with his girlfriend Jennifer Lopez.

“I don’t know if he was invited,” Rodriguez’ spokesman told the New York Daily News at the time. “I have no idea.”

Jeter and Rodriguez butted heads for nearly the entire time they wore the iconic New York Yankee pinstriped uniforms together. So it wouldn’t be the biggest surprise to find out that Rodriguez was left off the guest list.
