The “Chained To The Rhythm” singer signed a $25 million deal with ABC to be the lead judge on “American Idol,” according to TMZ.

Perry was announced as the first judge to sign on with the show last week and according to sources familiar with the negotiations, the network was getting desperate to sign a big name quick. Before signing Perry, they went after Idol alum Kelly Clarkson but she took them by surprise last minute and went to NBC’s “The Voice” instead.

They’ve tried to bring Perry on for “American Idol” before. They offered her a reported $20 million to come on as a judge back in 2012, but she turned it down, according to TMZ. This time around “Katy had all the leverage. If ABC ended up announcing the show without a judge, they’d be screwed,” one source said.

$25 million for a singer to offer her opinion about other singers’ abilities seems pretty desperate indeed.
