Former Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin thought some of his former players were pretty dumb.

Kiffin, who is now the head coach at Florida Atlantic University, got into an infamous dustup with head coach Nick Saban on the sidelines, where Saban looked extremely heated as he yelled at Kiffin.

New details have emerged about the heated argument, and it reportedly all started due to something Kiffin said into his headset.

AL.com recently released some snippets from an upcoming book written by sportswriter Ray Glier and Crimson Tide expert Phil Savage. The book, which is titled, “4th & Goal Every Day: Alabama’s Relentless Pursuit of Perfection,” explains how it all went down.

AL.com explained in part:

Savage writes that Kiffin said into his headset “dumb players make dumb plays,” which all the Crimson Tide coaches heard. Saban snapped back with “no, dumb offensive coordinators call dumb plays.” There were probably a few expletives left out.

Kiffin also famously left the Alabama program shortly before the national title game, which Alabama lost to Clemson.

It’s probably safe to say Saban and Kiffin aren’t missing each other too much.
