After dropping out of the bidding race for the Miami Marlins in late May, Jeb Bush has made a push to purchase the team with another ownership group that includes Miami-based rapper Pitbull.

A spokesman for the entertainer, whose real name is Armando Christian Peréz, confirmed that Pitbull joined an investment group led by New York-based Wayne Rothbaum and Tagg Romney, the son of former presidential candidate Mitt Romney, the Miami Herald reports.
“Yes, he is part of the group,” Pitbull’s spokesman confirmed. He declined to elaborate further on his involvement.
Bringing on Pitbull strengthens the group’s ties to Miami. Before the pop artist and rapper found worldwide fame, Pitbull served as the in-house DJ for the Miami Marlins. On Monday night he performed at Marlins Park for the Home Run Derby.

The investment group’s main competition in the auction for the team is a group led by former New York Yankees star Derek Jeter (who Bush previously partnered with) and another led by Miami business owner Jorge Mas.
The MLB commissioner wanted the Marlins to be able to announce the winner of the auction this week during the MLB All-Star activities. The bidding is now expected to conclude sometime next week, according to the New York Post.
