‘The Walking Dead’ Stuntman Dies After Falling On Set Of The Show
A stuntman for “The Walking Dead” was pronounced dead Thursday night after suffering from injuries from 25-foot fall on Wednesday on the set of the hit AMC show in Georgia.
John Bernecker, who worked as a stuntman in Hollywood for almost 10 years, lost his footing while rehearsing a fight scene and fell off a balcony onto concrete about 25-feet below, according to TMZ. Bernecker suffered blunt force trauma from the fall and had to be airlifted to the hospital where he was placed on a ventilator.
The medical examiner revealed that the 33-year-old stuntman died in the hospital Thursday evening, TMZ reports. Bernecker was in the company of friends and family, including his longtime girlfriend who is a stuntwoman on the show, when his ventilator was turned off.
“The Walking Dead” stopped production after Bernecker’s fall on set.
“We are saddened to report that John Bernecker, a talented stuntman for ‘The Walking Dead’ and numerous other television shows and films, suffered serious injuries from a tragic accident on set,” AMC said in a statement Thursday. “He was immediately transported to an Atlanta hospital, and we have temporarily shut down production. We are keeping John and his family in our thoughts and prayers.”
