Forget the solar eclipse because we’ve got much more important stuff on our plates today: there is reportedly new D.B. Cooper evidence.
The FBI had closed the case a little more than a year ago, but now the FBI has accepted new evidence of buried foam, according to the New York Daily News. The foam could be part of the parachute Cooper escaped in after he hijacked a Boeing 727 in 1971. He allegedly escaped with $200,000 in cash.
I am so in on D.B. Cooper. The guy had the guts to hijack a massive plane but didn’t hurt anybody, and proceeded to just parachute away. Odds are this guy is dead, but it’s still one of the greatest unsolved mysteries ever.
Part of me hopes they never figure it out. If the authorities find out the man responsible it might ruin some of the mystique behind the legendary hijacking. In my mind I’d like to imagine Cooper is somewhere down in Mexico sipping on a few cold margaritas. If you successfully pull off a hijacking, and nobody gets hurt, then I’d say you’ve earned your vacation.
Either way, it’s great to see Cooper back in the news.
