The Tennessee Volunteers broke out one of the weirder moves in recently college football memory Monday night against Georgia Tech.
A Volunteers coach carried around a trash can on the sidelines whenever the team was on defense, and it’s not particularly clear why.
When Tennessee is on defense, there is a trash can being held up on the sideline.

How big of a joke does your program have to be for the coaching staff to hear the suggestion of carrying around a trash can and agree to it? A coach might be publicly executed if he ever suggested this to Ohio State’s Urban Meyer or Alabama’s Nick Saban. At the very least he would be laughed out of the room.
Tennessee can’t be pulling of these cheap gimmicks and sideline sideshows if they want to be talked about in the same conversation as elite programs. Just pure foolishness out of the Volunteers coaching staff.
What message is this sending? Is Tennessee going to be putting the other team’s offense in the metaphorical trash? It makes no sense, and clearly nobody had the foresight to understand how Twitter would run with this, and rip Volunteers head coach Butch Jones.
