Race car driver Danica Patrick had a message for Americans everywhere on the 16-year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Patrick posted a photo of the American flag with the following caption:

I have always loved the American flag. I remember having a Wilson leather jacket with the flag covering the back. I had an America flag swim suit. I have a tattoo of an American flag on my back. …….I am a patriot. 9/11 was a day that tested our country. I had just come home from living in England for 3 years and I remember feeling more proud than ever to be an American. I want to come together everyday as human beings seeking love and peace, without tragedy. #neverforget

September 11, 2001 marked one of the darkest hours in American history. However, it also was a prime example of Americans coming together to help complete strangers and try to save as many lives as possible.

Patrick’s post is another great example of what makes America great.
