Should I Be Offended Famous Women Won’t Slide Into My DMs?

I’m starting to think I should be personally offended that famous women aren’t sliding into my direct messages.

If you asked me about this six months ago, I would have obviously said I had no expectations for famous women to be up in my DMs. However, a young woman who is a friend of mine – I do indeed know a few women – has so many famous men sliding into her DMs that it resembles a fantasy football roster.

She’s a fine young woman, but she’s not a celebrity. She’s not walking the red carpet at movie premieres, interviewing famous people or rolling around in a Vinny Chase-esque entourage. Yet, she has no problem getting countless messages for seemingly no reason at all, other than she is a woman on social media. Again, let me be clear, she’s a really fun person to be around, but she’s not a celebrity.

She’s also not the only one. I know plenty of women who have famous people in their DMs almost every day. Some handle it better than others. Some enjoy being showered in attention from people with a little name recognition, and others prefer their privacy.

This got me thinking about a few things. I am indeed on social media. I don’t have a massive following, but it’s also not the smallest on the internet. I’m not what some would call classically good looking. I’m cut more from the ruggedly handsome cloth of the Midwest, and I do have dashing blue eyes.

When I combine these factors, I begin to think at least one famous woman should be sliding into my DMs. Have I had some models shoot their shot with me? Of course I have, but I’m talking about super famous people. Why can my female friend draw so many messages without any effort, and I can’t get any no matter how hard I’m out here grinding on these internet streets.

Is there a double standard, or should I be offended? It’s not like I’m expecting Jennifer Lawrence, Lana Del Rey or Taylor Swift to shoot me a message anytime soon, but am I really supposed to believe that my social media game is so bad I can’t even get a message from the likes of Elizabeth Olsen or Kelly Rohrbach?

I hope that this is all just about a double standard, because that’s a hell of a lot easier of a pill to swallow than the idea by rugged Midwestern looks and social media game aren’t enough to get the job done.
