The Minnesota Gophers unveiled their new helmets Tuesday night, and they’re hideous.

The football team tweeted the new helmet design, which is essentially just a massive image of a Goldy the Gopher’s face.

Head coach P.J. Fleck’s reveal ceremony was equally as bad.

Everybody associated with the Gophers program should be ashamed and embarrassed. There is no excuse to be pulling out these gimmicks and dorky helmets for a game against Middle Tennessee. They’re in the best football conference in America, and they getting hyped for a glorified practice.

I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised. As a Wisconsin man, I grew up around a lot of people who went to Minnesota. Very unimpressive people. They embody the mediocrity we see out of the Gophers athletic program.

Real schools don’t bust out new helmets to play a school like Middle Tennessee. The only thing Wisconsin and other teams of our caliber are concerned about is winning on the field. We don’t need dumb gimmicks and antics to drum up attention. We simply have to show up.

Congratulations, Minnesota. Once again you’ve proven that nobody in the Big Ten should take you seriously. You are who we all thought you’d be, and that’s not a good thing.

P.S.: Wisconsin has won its last 13 games against Minnesota. It might be the oldest rivalry in major college football, but it’s far from equal.
