Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford might be the final member of a dying breed.

The Lions play the New York Giants tonight, and one of the people I work with floated the idea that Stafford might be the last of his kind in the NFL. The Texas-born quarterback has the same mentality of NFL legend Brett Favre.

He’s throwing the ball and he doesn’t care what the situation is.

I’m a huge Detroit Lions fan, and I’ve seen pretty much every single minute of Stafford’s career as an NFL signal caller. The man is absolutely fearless, he has a short memory, he has killer instincts and he has a rocket arm. Those quarterbacks don’t exist these days.

We have plenty of quarterbacks who are system guys, dual-threat or methodical passers. We don’t have have gunslingers like Stafford. He sees triple coverage and takes it as a personal challenge. Like I said, the guy is the closest thing we’ve ever had to Brett Favre.

Hopefully the Lions don’t waste his career like they did Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson.
