Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn kicked quarterback Sean White off the team after he was arrested for being drunk in public.

“Sean White is no longer a part of our football program at Auburn. He has made poor decisions that are not in the best interest of our program, and more importantly, himself. We appreciate his time at Auburn and wish him nothing but the best,” Malzahn said in a statement released to the media late Monday.

White was arrested over the weekend by Auburn police for public intoxication, and that appeared to be enough to justify kicking him off the team.

I can’t even begin to tell you how much I hate this move. I don’t want to live in a world where drunk athletes are booted off teams. The NHL would essentially cease to exist overnight. Is getting arrested for being drunk in public a great look? Of course not, but I want my quarterback to have a bit of a wild streak in him.

Alabama had a player arrested for DUI and didn’t even suspend him. That’s the difference between a winning program and a team that is just hoping to hang around.

Softest move I’ve ever seen by an SEC team.
