Sophia Loren turned 83-years-old Wednesday and to celebrate we took a look back at some of her most jaw-dropping big screen appearances and red carpet moments.

The Italian-born actress was first recognized when she entered a beauty contest at the age of 14 by film producer Carlo Ponti, according to IMDb. American audiences fell in love with the Italian beauty when she got a role in the United States in films like “Legend of the Lost” and “Pride and the Passion” in 1957. The actress soon became a huge movie star for her roles throughout the 1960s and 1970s staring with leading men like Paul Newman, Gregory Peck and Marlon Brando, just to name a few.

In 1991, Loren was recognized as “one of world cinemas greatest treasures” when she was given an Honorary Academy Award for her work.

She once said, “Sex appeal is fifty percent what you’ve got and fifty percent what people think you’ve got.” She clearly has that in spades! Happy Birthday, Sophia!
