Is ‘Ballers’ One Of The Most Underrated Shows On Television?

The third season of “Ballers” wrapped up last on HBO, and it makes questioning whether or not it’s one of the most underrated shows on television.

The show follows financial advisors Spencer Strasmore (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) and Joe (Rob Corddry) as they navigate the rocky world of sports management and finances.

I’ll be the first to admit, the show didn’t win me over at first. I thought it was essentially “Entourage” with athletes instead of actors. It focused mainly on partying, hot women, sports and just living the life. Hard to argue against any of those things being cool, but it just didn’t seem like much more than a fun 30 minutes on Sunday night.

However, “Ballers” really came into its own in the third season. The show began to pivot and mirror serious issues in the NFL, such as concussions and drugs.

One of the main characters, Ricky Jerrett, struggles with serious concussion problems, which ultimately leads to his early retirement. Jerrett’s storyline is proof the show is now becoming more realistic and serious instead of simply being about partying.

Lots of people wrote off this show after the first season because it simply wasn’t that impressive. Well, it sure is now and everybody should be watching.
