George Clooney Voices Support For National Anthem Protests With A Prayer

George Clooney is tackling the national anthem protest in the NFL in interesting fashion.

Last Friday, Donald Trump called for NFL players who don’t stand for the national anthem to be fired by team owners. In response to those comments, the fading national anthem protest saw a resurgence with nearly 200 players choosing to protest in various fashions.

Clooney wrote a prayer published by The Daily Beast on Tuesday that was clearly inspired by the protests and the back and forth between players and President Trump over the past few days.

“I pray for my country. I pray that we can find more that unites us than divides us. I pray that our nation’s leaders want to do the same,” Clooney wrote. “I pray for all our children. I play for our police and our first responders. I pray for our men and women of the armed services.”

“I pray that dissent will always be protected in this great country. I pray for a more perfect union. And when I pray, I kneel,” Clooney’s prayer reads.

While this is a nice sentiment, perhaps the “Ocean’s 11” actor didn’t think about the fact that most people kneel when they pray and most people stand when the national anthem is played.
