Watching Dave Chappelle’s latest standup in person lived up to the hype and then some.
Chappelle is currently doing a slate of shows in Washington D.C. for his upcoming Netflix special. Everybody I knew who had gone only had outstanding things to say. I knew they were right because everything the former Comedy Central star touches turns into comedic gold.
So, I spent $80 for a ticket and went Monday night at the Warner Theater. It quickly became clear that I would have paid double for my ticket. The show was that great.
I won’t give away anything specific because I don’t want to ruin it for everybody who is waiting for the standup to be released on Netflix. I will tell you that he hammered absolutely everybody. He drilled Hillary and Trump, went after transgenders and spent a decent amount of time chipping away at race relations. Every joke he told was incredible.
I don’t want to get too bold, but this standup might be even better than his first two. A generation grew up on “The Chappelle Show,” and it’s great to see him back at the top of the comedy world.
Hopefully he decides to stick around this time, and not run off to Africa anytime soon.
