Cam Newton Just Lost A Sponsor Over His ‘Sexist’ Remarks

Cam Newton just lost a sponsor for the “sexist” reaction he had to a female reporter in a press conference asking him about football on Wednesday.

The Carolina Panthers quarterback was asked about the physicality one of his teammates uses in his routes during games.

“It’s funny to hear a female talk about routes, like . . . it’s funny,” Newton responded to Jourdan Rodrigue, who covers the team for the Charlotte Observer.

Newton’s reaction was immediately met with intense criticism with with many sports commentators and reporters deeming his response as sexist. In light of that criticism Dannon Yogurt has fired the Panthers star as a sponsor for their Oikos Greek Yogurt brand, USA Today reports.

“We are shocked and disheartened at the behavior and comments of Cam Newton towards Jourdan Rodrigue, which we perceive as sexist and disparaging to all women,” Dannon spokesman Michael Neuwirth said in a statement.

“It is entirely inconsistent with our commitment to fostering equality and inclusion in every workplace. It’s simply not OK to belittle anyone based on gender. We have shared our concerns with Cam and will no longer work with him.”

Newton has not yet responded to the criticism that came from his comments on Wednesday.
