Josh Gordon Reveals Shocking Details Of His Downward Spiral In Cleveland
Suspended Cleveland Browns receiver Josh Gordon recently opened up in a documentary for UNINTERRUPTED about how his NFL career collapsed because of drugs.
Gordon was one of the most electric receivers in the league before it all came crashing down. For the first time since his indefinite suspension, the fans are finally getting a look at how it all went wrong.
Here are a few of his most interesting quotes from the documentary (courtesy of Cleveland.com).
On his substance abuse problems:
I’ve used alcohol on many, many occasions, Xanax on many occasions, cocaine several occasions, marijuana most of my life, codeine, cough syrup, methazine is very prevalent where I’m from. It’s what I grew up using.
On missing a team flight:
Stayed out late but the thing is we had to be up in the morning for like a 7:30 team meeting.
“I didn’t wake up until 10 o’clock, 10:15, coming out of a blackout, I’m getting a bunch of texts and calls, from coaches like ‘where are you at, we’re headed to the tarmac already.’ I’m like ‘aw sh–,’ so drove up to the tarmac, and our general manager at the time, he kind of pulls me to the side and talks to me, he’s like ‘I’m sorry Josh, but you’re not going on this plane.’ I was watching the plane go off and it was like well ‘f– it, let’s go home, let’s party.’
Baylor coaches helping him cheat drug tests:
Not too long after I got arrested for possession of marijuana at Baylor, one of my coaches came by saying ‘you are going to get drug tested by the compliance office. This is how it’s going to work, this is what they are going to do. If they do call you in, here goes these bottles of detox.’
Lots of people always believed that Gordon was simply getting thrashed by the league’s tough anti-marijuana rules. We now know that’s no longer the case.
Just another tragic story of a guy who had the world in his hand, and couldn’t get his stuff figured out. Just another cautionary tale that will serve as a reminder of how quickly things can go wrong.
