Another week of college football is behind us, and it was another incredible Saturday of action.

I know I usually get these observations to all of you on Sunday, but my schedule was a bit off due to the fact I paid a visit to Ole Miss this weekend. It’s an incredible place. I don’t know if you can call yourself a football fan, and never pay a visit to The Grove. You can read all about my experience here.

Anyways, these are my four biggest takeaways from the games this weekend.

1) Michigan is in deep trouble.

Michigan got smacked all over the field by Penn State. It was embarrassing for the Wolverines. I don’t buy any of the excuses about the age of the team,  the quarterback play or anything else. This is year three for Harbaugh, and he’s simply not getting in done in the fashion he should be. They might lose by 40 to Ohio State if they can’t figure out a way to turn it around.

2) Is Penn State the best team in America?

The Nittany Lions have pretty much breezed through their schedule, other than a very tight game against Iowa. I know the prevailing wisdom has the Alabama Crimson Tide as everybody’s favorite to win it all. However, I think there’s a serious argument to be made that Trace McSorley and company might be the best squad in America right now.

3) I was very wrong about Notre Dame.

I thought Notre Dame was one of the most overrated teams in the country through the first couple weeks of the season. They definitely aren’t overhyped, and I was wrong. There’s no way you could watch their 49-14 beatdown of USC, and not walk away impressed.

4) Our playoff picture is still wide open.

The only team I’m certain is going to the playoff is Alabama. The other three spots are up for grabs, and I’m not sure anybody has a great idea of who will get them. Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Clemson, Georgia, TCU, Oklahoma and Miami all will have the opportunity to control their own destinies down the stretch. I’m honestly not sure I could confidently pick the other three teams I expect to get in. Right now, I guess it’ll end up being Alabama, Penn State, TCU and Clemson.
