George R.R. Martin is apparently a New York Jets fan, and it really explains a lot about the darkness behind “Game of Thrones.”

USA Today found a blog post from Martin, where he laments life as a Jets fan. He wrote in part:

Life for a Jets fan is an unending torment.

Last week the refs gave the Pats an win over Gang Green with a bullshit reversal of a touchdown, one of the worst calls in the history of the NFL.

This weeks the Jets did it to themselves, blowing a two-touchdown lead in the fourth quarter to lose to the Fins. Total choke job.

Josh McCown finished the choke with a horrible INT with seconds left. He’s a decent quarterback, but he’s not the answer.

The Jets need to bench him and play Petty and Hack to see if one of those might offer hope.

This honestly explains so much. I’m viewing “Game of Thrones” through an entirely different lens. How could you not constantly write demented and dark content if the only football you know is the New York Jets? I’d be surprised if it was any other way.

Jets fans only know disappointment and pain. The team is a joke among NFL fans, and that doesn’t appear to be changing anytime soon. You won’t be the Jon Snow of the league, but you’re left with being less than a poor man’s version of King Tommen. Just a sad little kid.

It all makes way too much sense.
