It’s been nearly six weeks since I accepted the challenge of getting a famous woman to hit me with a direct message, and things aren’t off to the hottest start.

For those of you who might not know, I accepted this challenge back in September. The conditions attached with the bet are as follows:

1) The woman must have at least a million followers on social media.

2) I am not allowed to contact them first. They must contact me first. Obviously the whole purpose of this would be defeated if I sent the initial message. Messages can come through on any platform. Twitter, E-mail (hookstead@dailycaller.com), Facebook or however they get it to me.

3) It must be completed before April 18, 2018. I turn 26 on April 17, and we’ve agreed on this deadline for this experiment.

I honestly thought this would take about a week before it was over, and we’ve had some close calls. I had a certain former porn star slide into my DMs, but she was around 100,000 followers short of the necessary million followers mark. Some even tried to argue a porn star wouldn’t count, but it would have checked all three necessary boxes. That’s good enough in my book.

Things then went cold for awhile. Didn’t get a DM for weeks from any woman with more than 100,000 followers. This task was starting to look daunting, and there were certainly moments when I thought there was never a chance of this succeeding. It was baffling to me. I’m a reasonably funny guy, some have speculated my blue eyes inspired a Taylor Swift song and I’m on a journey to own the internet. Apparently this wasn’t enough to this point.

However, we recently had a breakthrough. A little hope has been restored. A certain famous smoke show American skier liked an article of mine on Twitter, and the office essentially entered lockdown. It felt like we were on the brink. The tension felt like that of the Cuban missile crisis. Was the liking of my story a sign that DM was imminent? This was uncharted territory. The DM never came, but it’s a sign I’m headed in the right direction.

There’s still five and a half months to get this done, and I’m more confident than ever. Stay tuned because it’s going to get wild.
