Any grown man that tweets at college athletic recruits deserves to be locked up in a mental institute.
There are plenty of acceptable things to do as a fan of college sports. Tweeting at recruits is not one of them.
It’s totally acceptable to wear lots of your school colors, grab more beers than your probably should during game day, use your fandom to meet, party with your guys, spend money on tickets and celebrate way more than you should when the team picks up a touch first down. All of those are acceptable action.
Tweeting at recruits is not on that list and never will be. Recruits are teenagers. Most of them aren’t even 18 years old at the time they commit. Would it be acceptable to be tweeting at a random 15 year old kid? Of course not. It shouldn’t be different just because the kid is good at sports.
The real issue here is full grown men who tweet at athletes when they de-commit or commit to a rival school. They hop on Twitter, act tough and chew out a 17 year old kid who decides to go to the school of his choice. It makes no sense, and it’s incredibly embarrassing.
It’s one thing to tweet happily about the commitment of a certain player. I wouldn’t do it, but that’s not too bad. Ripping a teenager for a personal choice can make an entire fanbase look bad.
