“Thank You For Your Service” is one of the best war movies ever made, and it’s also very tough to sit through and watch.
I was intrigued by the film from the moment I say the first trailer. The movie chronicles the true story behind veteran Adam Schumann (played by Miles Teller), and every American should watch this film.
I’ll keep spoilers to a minimum while discussing the film, but be warned there will be a few along the way.
War films have always interested me, so I bought a ticket Sunday morning to catch a showing. I had no idea what to expect at all. It’s brutal to sit through, especially because the viewer knows it’s a true story.
The opening scene involves a soldier getting shot in the head, and the wounded man’s blood pouring over the face of Schumann as he tries to evacuate the man. It only gets worse from there.
One man shoots himself in the head in the middle of a bank, multiple different people have horrible break downs, and the topic of suicide is lingering throughout the entire film. Again, it’s not easy to sit there and watch. There were multiple moments where I was nearly regretting buying a ticket.
It’s worth it in the end. I hope plenty of people watch it because it’s a story that needs to be told.
